Why a party game that runs in the browser?
On a busy game night, setup wastes the most time: one person has an iPhone, another Android; someone is out of storage, someone isn’t signed in to their store account. A browser game has none of that. Whoever opens the room drops the link in the group chat and everyone joins at once, on a phone, tablet or computer.
How to play Bukalemun Partisi
Bukalemun Partisi (Chameleon Party) is an online hide-and-seek game built around turning into objects. Hiders disguise themselves as one of the items in the room and try to blend in; the hunter tries to work out which items are real and which are players in disguise. A player who gets caught pops like candy. The game is played in landscape, so just turn your phone sideways.
- One person opens the game and creates a room.
- They share the link in the group chat.
- Friends tap the link, join in the browser and the round begins.
5 tactics for hiders
- Pick an object that fits: a teapot looks natural in the kitchen; a lone cushion in the middle of the floor stands out.
- Blend into the crowd: corners where similar items sit side by side are the best hiding spots.
- Stay still: the hunter’s eye catches movement first. If you need to move, do it when the hunter has their back to you.
- Avoid the obvious spots: the exact centre of the room and the doorway everyone checks first are both risky.
- Watch the last seconds: hunters search more aggressively as time runs out; moving then is usually a bad idea.
4 tactics for the hunter
- Memorise the room: look at where things are at the start of the round; anything that appears or moves later is suspicious.
- Watch for duplicates: if you see two of something there should only be one of, one is probably a player.
- Search systematically: splitting the room into zones and sweeping them in order catches more players than running around at random.
- Talk to your team: by voice or chat, saying “I’ve got the kitchen” stops two people searching the same place.
Tips for game night
4–8 players is the sweet spot. Everyone doesn’t need to be on the same Wi-Fi, but a stable connection reduces lag. Rounds are short, so house rules like “the loser is the next hunter” keep things moving.
